What is the measuring difference in tip to tip or opening size measurements?
Believe it or not, it is just as it sounds.
Most vents are measured by the framed opening of the gable wall.
For this, you will need access to the attic to measure only the framed opening from behind the vent,
or remove the vent from the opening to get a good measure from outside the gable.
Once the old vent is removed, either the opening will need covered or the old vent re installed
to protect the attic from storms while waiting on the replacement vent.
Ordering a vent using opening size is simple.
It requires no other calculations from you.
Just the width, height and depth.
We will deduct 1/4 inch per side to ensure an easy fit.
This also allows for the expansion and contraction of the framing.
This is very important.
Not only for the easier install for squaring the vent up with the wall,
but also the fact that wood swells with temperature and moisture.
Ordered too tight can cause seasonal pressure on the vent.
Aluminum has a much higher tollerance.
Aluminum does not expand or contract.

For tip to tip, the vent will be the only measured item.
We will not reduce the vent measure.
The vent itself will be manufactured the size ordered.
This measure will not include for any flange added.
Commonly used with No Flange Vents being installed outside the wall,
J Channel Vents one inch deep,
and Back Flange Vents mounted outside the wall sheating.
