Starting with a picture of the front of this triangle vent…

First thing I notice is it looks like a right angle.

And, yes, the 34 x 17 is a 12/12 pitch.

But we are still going to ask for the measures instead of the pitch.

Why?

Well, we don't know your framer.

Was he having a bad day and cut on the wrong side of the line?

This might change the pitch to 11.8 or 12.2.

And on a triangle, that eighth of an inch cut might be 2 or more inches on a measure.

Another consideration, did the framer have a beer in his hand when he cut the rafters?

Or should he have had a beer to make the cuts more accurate?

Or did Home Depot sell him straight as a snake lumber? Hmmm...

Going over to the side, I see the louvers or slats are standing straight and firm.

If a vent has sagging or loose fitting slats from the beginning,

it can only get worse.

Vinyl and plastic vents have a shelf life.

They start out pretty firm and erect.

But as they age, the heat can soften the slats and make them droopy.

And if they make it to an old age,

they tend to dry up, flake and become brittle.

Aluminum tends to age much slower.

At the age of 5, a plastic vent might look, act and work like it's 45.

Aluminum is almost ageless.

At 45, aluminum may still look as lustrious as it did at 5 years old.

Get the spatula out and flip it again.

Just like the louvers are locked onto a rail system for the framing of the vent,

the corners of the flange are turned and locked also.

There is no welding to break loose.

No staples or wood components in these vents.

And the fixed louvers are permanently fixed.

Not two part slats slid or pieced together for falling apart later.

The graying seen on the back is actually the aluminum insect screen.

You may notice the bottom is boxed off instead of angled.

For years, installers have been using roof vents as wall inserts.

A roof vent has an angled base to sit on a roof.

A wall vent has a square base to sit on the framing of the wall opening.

This is so the vent doesn't try to slide out of the hole during installation.

A wall vent installs just as easy as a vinyl window.
